You may have heard the term calisthenics floating around the gym, or perhaps you came across it on the internet and didn’t know what it meant? Don’t be scared by the complicated sounding name: calisthenics is just another name for bodyweight exercises.
Calisthenics before and after photos are extremely common on the internet, and supposedly show how people were able to transform their bodies through simple bodyweight exercises. While some of these are undoubtedly fake, the calisthenics physique is real, and it looks great!

Upper body calisthenics has always been popular through exercises such as push ups, sit ups, and pull ups, but entire calisthenics workouts are now becoming widespread. Calisthenics workouts at home are a great way to get started if you can’t afford to or are too shy to go to the gym. They don’t cost anything and it doesn’t matter what your fitness level is at the beginning.

The few movements which do require equipment, such as pull ups, can easily be substituted out of your routine if you don’t have access to a gym.

There is really no way to define what is the ‘best’ or the ‘most useful’ calisthenic movement. The best and most relevant movement to you will depend on a number of things, including your body shape, areas where you are naturally strong, and the goals that you are trying to reach.
For example, if you are trying to build your pecs and shoulders, then the best movements for you would be those involved in a calisthenic chest workout – a quick Google search will reveal what these are.
A daily calisthenics workout routine involves a number of simple exercises which are completed every single day. They are usually performed in the morning before work, and are a great way to wake up and get your blood flowing. Some great daily calisthenics routines include simple exercises such as sit ups and pushups.
Calisthenics results don’t always come quickly and calisthenics transformations aren’t always obvious. However, if you perform enough bodyweight exercises for long enough you will soon find that you feel stronger and healthier than ever before.
You will probably find that you lose at least some fat, and that you have a lot more energy to get out and do things. Again, remember that calisthenic transformations don’t happen overnight. They need a lot of work and commitment.
