Top 5 healthy snacks to consider you may not have tried yet

Top 5 Healthy Snacks You Probably Haven’t Tried Yet

When it comes to eating healthy foods, we all know that a piece of fruit is going to be good for us, or that carrot sticks are going to be beneficial. Anything natural is a good choice, especially something that is low in sugar. But, when you eat the same things each day, like hard-boiled eggs, veggie sticks, and berries, it can get a little repetitive and boring. So, what are the more interesting snacks that you could eat if you are a fitness freak or someone who just wants to eat healthily? Here are five options that you could consider.

1.Homemade peanut butter cookies

You might hear the word cookies and immediately think that it’s an unhealthy choice. However, if you are making them from scratch, you can make sure that they are full of goodness and low in sugar. If possible, you could make your own peanut butter from scratch using just peanuts, although you will need a strong blender or food processor. If buying your peanut butter, choose a completely natural one, with the only ingredient being peanuts.

Mix around one cup of peanut butter with one egg, and then shape into balls and bake in the oven. If you want to make things sweeter, you could add a little sugar, or for a denser texture, making them crunchier, you could add some coconut or brown rice flour.

2.Biltong

Beef Biltong is a good option for a snack that is high in protein, and is great to munch while on the go. Protein-based snacks keep you fuller for longer, and they can be a good choice post-workout. They are a low-carb option too, so suitable for anyone following a keto diet. When it comes to beef stick snacks, it is best to look for ones that are not loaded with sugar or other preservatives, in order for them to be the healthiest ones possible. Most Biltong doesn’t contain sugar, but if you choose a poor-quality variety, then it could have added sugar.

3.Sweet trail mix

Trail mix is another good snack to crunch on and will taste even better if you make it yourself. With nuts being one of the key components of trail mix, you will be getting protein and plenty of healthy fats in your snack. Dried fruits are also a good choice to add, but just make sure you choose ones that don’t have sulfites or preservatives in them. Goji berries, raisins, banana chips, and mangoes are usually good choices. If you want to make your trail mix even sweeter, then you could add some dark chocolate chips, which are much healthier and lower in sugar than milk chocolate or white chocolate.

    4.Turkey roll-ups

Turkey roll-ups not only taste good but are a nutritious snack as well. Turkey is very lean meat, so you are getting a low-fat snack, with protein, helping you to feel fuller for longer. For a snack of around twenty grams of protein and less than two-hundred calories, you could try the following, alongside some pickles or cucumber slices:

    • Four slices of turkey breast
    • Twenty grams of cream cheese

Spread the cream cheese on the turkey slices, adding some pickles or cucumber slices. Roll the turkey up, and you’ve got the equivalent of a low-carb sandwich to snack on.

    5. Cantaloupe and prosciutto

This is something that you might get as a starter at a fancy restaurant, but it is so simple, that you can easily have a delicious, healthy, and filling snack at home. Cantaloupe is a fruit that is juicy, tasty and is a really good choice nutritionally. It has lots of antioxidants that can help you to fight inflammation, keep your eyes healthy, and reduce chances of infection. Not just that, it is a also good source of vitamins A and C, as well as potassium.

When you team up cantaloupe with prosciutto (a dry-cured ham), it helps to give you a really good balance for a snack, with some natural sweetness as well as saltiness, protein, fiber, and just under two-hundred calories. Slice yourself a wedge of cantaloupe and then wrap one slice of prosciutto around it. Yum!

Eating in a healthy way doesn’t need to be repetitive and boring, you just need to get a little creative and try some new combinations. Making things from scratch helps too, as does using quality ingredients. What is your favorite go-to healthy snack?
